From Idea to Live — in Five Months

After years of playing competitions and working with organizers, the number one bottleneck of table tennis tournaments became clear: score reporting.

At a table tennis tournament, there can be hundreds (or sometimes even thousands) of matches going on throughout the day. Imagine — all of these scores are written down on pen & paper, and then recorded by a staff member once the physical sheet is returned. Along with being an immense amount of manual labor, this causes inevitable errors and cascading delays.

So the mission became clear: solve score reporting, and everything else will follow.

• Devised a completely new way for players to report their own scores with simple birthdate validation — no account, no password, no additional bottlenecks.
• Designed modular systems that display an enormous amount of complex data but feel light and easy to read.
• Focused only on the core problem and what was required to support it, which meant scoping ruthlessly and iterating fast. </aside>

In September 2023, Stadium was successfully used to run a nationally-sanctioned tournament with over 200 players — just five months after I wrote the first line of code.
